Balance? Not always.

Happy Labor Day. Hope you are enjoying this glorious weather with friends and family. That's my plan for later today. This morning though, I'm working. Why? Because I want to. I feel recharged after a stellar vacation and I am bursting with ideas and pieces that have to be completed.
.
I've been thinking about balance and trying to look at it in a bigger picture sort of way. When you work for yourself it is a luxury to structure your time in a way that fits you best. Of course there are deadlines, commission work, unexpected family issues. For the most part, though, you are steward of your time. I'm using mine wisely.
.
So, what I've been practicing this past week is flexibility more than balance. Sometimes I like working with a sense of urgency that enhances my creative spirit. Other times I am slow and methodical.
.
I don't always have to go to the post office in the afternoon or ride my bike (yea, for cooler weather) in the morning. I've stopped making those long" to do" lists.
.
Sometimes just a little flexibility opens up the possibility of an experience your never thought about. Make your heart beat faster, take a risk. That's my plan, and the sky's the limit.

Kiss the ones you love,

Nice to see you all!

Cape May 8.22.10 about 7:00AM

I think I've found the Secret. No, not that Secret. I think the key to a truly meaningful life is to take the way you feel on day 3 of vacation, hold it close and don't forget the feeling. Incorporate it into your every day life.
.
Stuff will happen that you didn't plan and you will work many 14 hour days. But you will be doing work you love and you will have balance. You steer your own destiny, and that is a privilege.
.
We are sitting on the porch of our beach cottage on some white wicker furniture with black and while toille print cushions. It was as idyllic as you might surmise. It was the end of day 3. My husband leaned in for a kiss or some sweet words , I thought. Instead he said " You know those lines on your brow are gone, hon." I just simply burst out laughing, but he was right.
.
I wasn't watching, but I hope you kissed the ones you love,

Thanks for asking...

For those of you who have inquired about my sons's trip to Greece, thanks, and I offer this small update. He's having a wonderful time, has so much to tell us, inspired by the beauty of Delphi, Mykonos, he's taken hundreds of photos. But, he says the food is bad, the seas somewhat rocky, but I'm certain the adventures of a lifetime.
The tour guide took these photos and they are from this week, not her date stamp. Danny in bright green in the first shot, seated in red in the second)
It's been nice that he's been able to phone us, and it's also been lovely to spend this kind of time with my husband. We plan to do that more often. Like everything else, life is a delicate balance. I also forgot what it's like to be able to walk around the house without a robe on. Delicious.
