Be Nice

This is a short lecture which will ironically be read by you, my lovely regular readers and friends instead of the mean girls. And yet, I'm not going to sleep until I have my say.

It was a day of meanness. Why? I'm sure there are lots of excuses, but is there any real reason to be mean? It's not funny, it's unkind and truly it reflects the character of the perpetrator.

I'm not naming names. But....

One of my favorite etsy sellers, whose shop I patronize was vilified in the fora tonight. No facts, just a personal and professional attack on the way she conducts business. Stop it.

There is a popular blogger who seems to delight in tweeting the solicitations of help from novice bloggers and business women. Women who think highly enough of her to ask for a bit of direction. Stop it.

I got a tearful convo from a new seller who had actually received a convo from another women in her field telling her she had no talent and it would be best to just close shop. Yes, I saw the convo. Stop it.

Finally, to my former blog follower who just felt the need to let me know that my moral compass needed some fine tuning in regards to my previous post. I say STOP IT! In this case I'd like to say so much more, but then I'd probably eat a chocolate cake and I don't want to do that.

I can usually turn the other cheek, but today I have had enough of the mean girls. Stop it. Be nice or Leave--Thank you.

i don't know what's going on out in the world these days but people seem to be meaner and snarkier than usual. even if they are unhappy themselves it's not an excuse to take it out on others...good for you for standing up! as the old bumper sticker said, mean people s*ck....

I am glad you had your say. There is no reason at all to be mean. I agree they are probably unhappy themselves.

What ever happened to The Golden Rule? I fear it's meaning has been lost.

I don't go to the forums. Haven't been for over a year. I can't let that kind of mean mentality into my life. It's too troubling.

Mean people are unhappy, probably miserable, people. Not much of a condolence, but I think it's true.

I'm glad you got it off your chest, dear friend. One shouldn't keep that poison inside. When that kind of situation arises with me, I try to remember to take the high road. Nothing comes of stooping to their level....I'm proud of you for the way you handle yourself.

When I hear/see some of the mean and hateful things some people are saying...ugh! All I picture is a sewer pipe just spewing gak into a river. How sad to be so full of hate.

I agree with you kiddo! What is up with people? And it seems to be getting worse.
I find myself doing a lot of typing and deleting lately.
So yeah, "Be nice".

I find, especially on the internet where everyone is vying for "attention bytes", they are taking to being clever in lieu of being nice. I'm sorry you had such a full day of it!

I know children are mean but there is no excuse for adults. It seems the older I get the more I notice how mean, self centered and nasty people are becoming. Maybe it's me...nah!

Someone took offense at your previous post? Good grief. *rolls eyes*

I love this post and wholeheartedly agree. As a high school teacher, I am often dealing with these type of issues and need to put that sign up in my classroom!

People suck. Yes, they really do. Unfortunately its the bad ones that get noticed and the great ones that usually are forgotten. it's tough to turn the other cheek and sometimes I think people need to be called out on their actions when they are sucky. Usually its because of an insecurity on their part. The rest of us will try to carry on with being normal human beings that respect each other and the rest of the world can kiss our a$$es. :)

Preach it, sister! I don't understand where people get off being nasty to others. If I have a rude comment to make, I say it to my dogs or in one of my songs! There's no need to be so ugly to fellow human beings. And now I'm curious... I missed your previous post and will go check it out now!

Hmmm... I guess I should clarify lest someone think I'm ugly to my dogs. They are my listeners, and I often tell them what I'm thinking. So they get to hear my good comments and my bad ones. Nothing quite like a dog audience.

Oh, there must be two moons in the sky this month. I had a run in as well...and I usually just let things go. Amazing. I wouldn't have even known had it not been for a tweet... Seems people think if they can't call out in the forums they can create a blog and hide behind anonymity.

I rarely visit the forums and was reminded why a few weeks ago as to why. I would imagine that people who behave in such negative ways have a life of misery and stress...and never read Miss Manners.

Oh wow. This is why I stay out of Etsy other than to buy!

Thanks for saying this Sherry. I totally agree.
I also love your sign.... Be Nice Or Leave..... Wonder if I could use that in my classroom at school. It certainly cuts to the essence of good behavior.

It's always good to unload once in a while. Good for your spirit.

To paraphrase our mothers advice "Say something nice or shut up"...ugh. I want that sign for my front lawn.
