The Brownies Make Hearts

Yesterday, I found myself in the delightful company of 5 six year old girls. Every month or so, I am invited to this particular Brownie troop to do a jewelry activity with the girls. There are 10 girls in the troop but usually only half of the girls can attend. On Monday I read an article in the Storque about making Valentine cards for the Citymeals-on-Wheels program.
*
So, after we made jewelry I gave each girl a simple heart, some handmade stickers and some store bought ones. Carly even came up with the idea to use the ribbon so the hearts could hang on the door. While they worked and squealed, I explained to them what the program was all about.
*
After they were finished, they even pecked out a note to Adam on my laptop to let him know they didn't use any glitter! (it's a food issue)
*
I didn't take photos of the girls(that's an internet issue) because I would have needed their parent's permission. They were adorable, though. You see, these are very special little girls. All of them have moms that are either living with cancer or have died. And, for one brief moment yesterday, they were able to think of someone else. To just be a part of the world around them. And, as always, I am grateful to be a part of their world.

You are so very special Sherry. What a wonderful way to spend time with little girls that are missing those types of moments with their moms. And, the hearts end up in a place where they will also be appreciated...

Sherry that is so wonderful. How nice that they have some time to be just the little girls they are meant to be.

It's wonderful to be able to teach children how to share a bit of themselves with those who need it. How wonderful of you to share yourself with these very special girls. Your post warmed my heart, I am sure the seniors will feel the same.

I loved reading this. Whenever one can be a bright light for a child it is a wonderful thing.
