Give them roots

...so they will have wings. That's how the saying goes. It's much easier said than done, but we do it nevertheless. My son, who is 17, is leaving for a trip to Greece next week during Spring break. A week in Athens, and a cruise to Crete, Turkey and the beautiful islands, including my favorite, in the picture, Santorini.

He is excited and nervous at the same time, as are his Dad and I. He knows most of the kids and teachers that are going. We shop for passport holders and order euros, but we are quiet a lot.

I am though ,looking forward to some alone time with my husband. It's been 16 years since we've been alone for more than a weekend. OK now, this is sounding pretty good.
Of course I will worry, I'm an expert at that, but I'll have lots to keep me occupied as well!

What a great experience for Danny! I went away for a couple of months when I was 20 and my mum cried & cried at the airport but was fine after a few days. She even got sick of me calling home!
Enjoy your time alone as a couple and look forward to the stories when your lad gets home. J x

I don't want to take anything away from your lucky son, but here's an even better idea: you and your husband go to Greece!

That looks beautiful! What an amazing experience he will have. Enjoy your solo time!

Ummm...obviously I should have had you for a parent!

When I was that age, the movie Summer Lovers came out (with Darryl Hannah) and I dreamed of being in Greece.

It hasn't happened yet.

I hope your son has a memorable, safe trip! (And you and hubby have fun)

I have a 15 year old son and waited up for him this past Saturday night cause he went to a party that didn't end until Midnight. Seriously couldn't sleep until he got home. Would I stay awake the entire time he was in Greece? Very possibly.
I'm sure he will have an incredible experience, just relax and don't be an insane worrier like me!!!

Lucky boy! I would be so nervous to send mine off...I don't even like them to be down the street!
Maybe we should go with him, just to be sure he's ok....

I know exactly where you are coming from, as i have a 19 year old son myself that is a sophomore in college. I've been through all of these "tests" and so far, so good. It does not get any easier though.

good for you for letting him go! My mom let my sister and I go to Costa Rica on a school trip when we were, oh, 13 and 14, and we'll never forget it.
