Lessons Learned....Explosion!

I had a lovely weekend with my family and even managed to finish a few fine silver pieces for my cityscape series. I had a bright, ok, not so bright idea to create a pendant from a Cape May beach stone surrounded by a silver bezel.

I thought it looked fine and even carved a floral bale for it. I thought I left enough space to allow for shrinkage.....but halfway through the firing I heard an explosion in my kiln!

Not only did the silver explode, but the rock exploded in 4 pieces! My husband said there may have been water in the rock. Who knows, but now I have to dig tiny pieces of silver form the sides of my kiln. Lesson learned.
